Memek basa
I love the process of scoring the glass, the sparkle and array of color, to the compulsive fascination of gluing the tesserae in flowing lines. I have found my passion. I have studied mosaics in Ravenna, Italy but mostly have been self-taught working with friends along the way. Recently, I have joined the Society of American Mosaic Artists where I found many other devotees.
Creating artwork passionately is a precarious crest on a slippery slope. I get inspiration for my work everywhere but mostly from nature, in faces, birds, and landscapes. I am very interested in the subtle differences in value that contour a face and make it look 3-dimensional. The hard edges of glass cut in small tesserae does not lend itself to easy transitions of value or color. I love this challenge.
